Day Trading Computers
Day Trading is a very high risk but high reward potential venture, once you learn proper
technical analysis, have a risk parameter set, and are ready to trade live money you do not want
to do this on subpar equipment much fewer phones and tablets. It is recommended by most
profitable day traders to at the very least use a good quality gaming type laptop or desktop
computer. I built my own overbuilt computer when is started day trading and it still serves me
daily this is why a quality day trading machine is always recommended. The computer setup
does not have to break the bank either and be overly expensive. In this article, we will go over
some key points and options.
Intimidated By Options
As a new trader, you are probably overwhelmed with the endless options on amazon when it comes to what computer to purchase and or intimidated by walking into your local store to
purchase a computer and tell the person across the desk you want it for day trading. But
purchasing your day trading computer is actually not difficult or even very costly, to begin with.
Main Hardware Tips
Ram is short for random access memory kind of how our memory works always random lol.
Ram is used for very fast and temporary data storage hat a computer needs to access right
away on a consistent basis one could say. A solid amount of ram one would want on a laptop or
desktop should be about 16gb this will be more than enough for day trading and even gaming
The processor is the central processing unit or CPU of your computer it is the hardware that
enables your computer to communicate or interact with all the applications installed within the
computer. As day traders we use various tools at the same time, charts, trading platforms,
scanners, and sometimes more. So we typically want a computer that has a strong processor
and can multi-task faster than we can ourselves Something as simple as an i5 processor dual-
core 8gb will be sufficient for day trading and even some gaming. If you can spend a little more
than there are processors with 4-6 cores like the Intel Core i7 which you cannot go wrong with.
Graphics cards, the reality is you do not need to run a 1080p or some 4k graphics card in your
day trading computer because its not like you are playing call of duty in 4k you are just day
trading and the only graphics you have running are charts which do not consume a lot from a
graphics card. Here you can get as creative as you want or as low budget as you want as long as
it is of decent quality so it does not crash on you. These days graphics cards that runs in 1080
are very affordable.
There are two major companies that manufacture the best graphics chips. They include NVIDIA
and AMD. Both offer high-quality graphics cards that work with third party cooling systems.
Some budget graphics cards for your trading computer include EVGA GeForce GT 720 2GB
As for storage, I would always make sure to have an SSD drive as the main storage device on my
computer of at least 250gb-500gb this is where I typically run my operating system for quick
reboots and my trading software. I use an external drive to store and run my scanners, and
other tools as well as any games or non-trading files.
In conclusion, you do not need to break the bank or spend thousands upon thousands on a day
trading setup all you need is the right equipment where it counts and a system you take care of.
